SCIENTIFIC INFORMATION
PLANT DESCRIPTION (Botanical Identification) :- A medium to large sized, deciduous tree, upto 18 m in height.Leaves imparipinnnate, leaflets ovate or ovate-lanceolate, variable. Flowers small, white, in axillary racemes or panicles..It is a medium sized tree with characteristic papery, pinkish or light buff coloured, smooth outer bark which peels off in thin papery pieces leaving greenish bark on the trunk. The gum oleo-resin exudes out during winter and gets deposited on the various parts of tree trunk. The oleo-resin is secreted in the schizogenous ducts in the bark which are scattered just below the bast fibres. Transverse section of a young stem shows a continuous wavy ring of bast fibres just below the cork. Oleo resin ducts of various shape and sizes are scattered all along the bast fibres. IN old stems, with the increase of secondary growth, the ring of bast fibres becomes discontinuous and gets scattered in the cork tissues.
